The history of our top product Earth Cream Powder, formerly known as 'desert sand'

Have you been a loyal Istrilene customer for a long time? Then you will definitely recognize this packaging of our top product Earth Cream Powder!

History of Earth Cream Powder, Desert Sand

What is now Earth Cream Powder was originally the so-called 'desert sand'. This name comes from ancient Egypt. The Egyptians were among the first people to use make-up. They used the desert sand, which contained henna, yellow and red ochre, copper sulphate, graphite, malachite and other
contained purely natural components, mixed it with oil or water and applied it as a foundation on their faces.

We contacted Marivonne Nys , who was an Istrilene consultant for decades, for some more information.

Marivonne: “The product was packaged in beautiful earthen pots, previously made in the sheltered workshop. Some regular customers still have these pots, they were so beautiful. Later the process was taken over by a potter in Tremelo. At first it was an earthenware beige pot, with a cork, later a blue and black version came.”

Even today, customers (even from Norway) still ask if the product is available in that beautiful jar.

The desert sand is a top product, and that is why its composition has remained exactly the same over the years.

Marivonne: “ A touch of ‘desert sand’ on your face every day throughout the winter, and you will always have a beautifully tanned, healthy complexion. Of course, applicable to all seasons!”

Liliane Hessels , a consultant for us for many years, also remembers the product well.

“The product was packaged in a cute jar with a cork, a feast for the eyes. Before using the desert sand, we always recommended applying a day cream and letting it penetrate well. Shake the jar to loosen and air up the powder, and apply a little powder with a larger make-up brush. In the current packaging with a handy hole lid, it is even easier to dose the powder. I always turn my brush in the jar, and if you still have the feeling that you have too much powder; just blow on the brush."

Depending on the shade you want, you can repeat this several times. You can also put more emphasis on the cheekbones, or next to the nose or jawline to accentuate them a bit.

The great thing about this powder is that it doesn't dry out the skin at all. It's a beautiful powder color, very natural. Like the sun in a jar!”
