The history of our top product Earth Cream Powder, formerly known as 'desert sand'

Have you been a loyal Istrilene customer for a long time? Then you'll definitely recognize the packaging of our top-selling Earth Cream Powder!

History of Earth Cream Powder, Desert Sand

What is now Earth Cream Powder was originally made from so-called "desert sand." This name comes from ancient Egypt. The Egyptians were among the first people to use makeup. They used desert sand, which contained henna, yellow and red ochre, copper sulfate, graphite, malachite, and other purely natural ingredients, mixed it with oil or water, and applied it to their faces as a foundation.

We contacted Marivonne Nys , who was an Istrilene consultant for decades, for some more explanation.

Marivonne: "The product was packaged in beautiful earthenware pots, made in the sheltered workshop. Some regular customers still have these pots today; they were so beautiful. Later, the process was taken over by a potter in Tremelo. Initially, it was a beige earthenware pot with a cork, and later a blue and black version was made."

Even today, customers (even from Norway) still ask if the product is available in that beautiful jar.

The desert sand is a top product, and that is why its composition has remained completely the same over the years.

Marivonne: " A touch of 'desert sand' on your face every day throughout the winter, and you'll always have a beautifully tanned, healthy glow. Suitable for all seasons, of course!"

Liliane Hessels , a consultant for us for many years, also remembers the product well.

The product was packaged in a cute, corked jar, a feast for the eyes. Before using the desert sand, we always recommend applying a day cream and letting it absorb thoroughly. Shake the jar to loosen and fluff the powder, and then apply a small amount with a larger makeup brush. The current packaging, with its handy perforated lid, makes dosing the powder even easier. I always swirl my brush around in the jar, and if you still feel like you've got too much powder, just blow on the brush.

Depending on your desired complexion, you can repeat this several times. You can also emphasize your cheekbones, or the area next to your nose or jawline to accentuate them.

The fantastic thing about this powder is that it doesn't dry out the skin at all. It's a beautiful powder color, very natural. Like sunshine in a jar!

Have you used our sun 🌞 in a jar yet?
